Search For is one of our Internet applications that serves the whole enterprise. Search For is one of our one-of-a-kind Internet tools to find stuff on the Internet.

After you install Search For.

If you have not setup any start pages for Search For, Search For will start at http://worksoftware.biz

Metacrawler, Yahoo, Search, Lycos, Google, Alltheweb, WiseNut, Altavista, Clusty, Excite, MSN, and LookSmart are the search Engines that will be used.

To see the results of each search site, click the button labeled with that site, or you can use the < > buttons to change search sites. The Back and Forward buttons will take you to relative sites from the main site that you are on.

The Save button in the right corner starts as Save aa. Two files will be saved in the c:\sfphotos\ folder, aa.txt and aa.htm. The file with the txt extension will be text. Just like a save as txt from Internet Explorer. The second file will be .htm that will be an HTML version of the web site.

The Save button in the upper right corner, will increment every time you hit the button, Starting with aa, ab, ac, and so on, after az, it will go to ba, bb, bc, and so on. After it counts to zz, it starts over again at aa. From aa - zz gives you the option of saving up to 676 files before you start over writing them.

The Save button will reset back to aa when you start Search For.

To search for something, type your text in the light-yellow text field.

You can have up to 12 starting pages. If you start Search For and you have not actually started any searches, the buttons will be set to the sites that you set them to.
To set up the start pages, double click in the light yellow text field. On the right side of the window, you will see two columns by 12 rows, white text boxes. One column is labeled URL the other is labeled Title. Here you can type in each of your web addresses in the URL column, and the Title box is the label you want to see on each of the 12 buttons at startup. Click the Save Start Pages button to save them. Keep in mind as soon as you start to search for something, the button captions are going to revert back to all of the search engines.

If you double click the light-yellow text field, you will see a list of items you have already searched for. If you single click any thing in this list, you will see that that text appear in the light-yellow text field again. This makes it easy to slightly modify your search.

Once you have text in the light-yellow text field you can hit the key, or click the Search button.

To get into the configuration screen, double click the light-yellow text field. From the configuration screen, you can double click previous searches to search it again. You can also clear out the selected previous search or you can clear all previous searches.

The default configuration folder is going to be searchstart.sf.

You can use a different configuration, by putting a name and .sf in the command line to force Search For to use a different configuration. For example, all of the start pages, labels and history will be different with each configuration (xxx.sf) file. Keep this name short, and do not use spaces in it.

You can copy the current text in the title bar to the clipboard, but clicking the 'Title' Button. This is generally the title of the current web page.

The CC button Captures the current URL to the Windows Clipboard. If you double click in the address text field, the peach color text field and you have a valid link in the clipboard, the link will be pasted in the text field and you will be taken to that site. If the clipboard does not have a http:// https://, or ftp://, Search for will not paste it into the text box. It must be a valid link!
Command Line Options:

searchfor4.exe searchclip

The searchclip board on the command line will force Search For to monitor the Windows clipboard and as the clipboard changes, Search For executes a new search for the contents of the clipboard. List to Clipboard for example will for a new search to happened for each item in the list in question. If you have to search for the same text over and over again, List to Clipboard, and searchclip set on Search For will able a single button new search.

searchfor4.exe findmcse.sf. The command line findmcse.sf is a unique configuration file that is reserved for MCSE students. That is Search For will automatically add the word " Microsoft' to any searches.

You do not have to identify any Search For configuration file, but you can do this from the command line. Any word except findmcse with a .sf is a valid configuration file name such as searchfor4.exe gen.sf. There are many uses for this option, one that I use is a work.sf that I use on my work PC. Another good reason for these different files is you can have each configuration have it's own start pages, and search history. This also makes group functions. Keep in mind the window size, and location on the screen are independent for each configuration as well! Where you save photos, web pages or text files can also be different for each configuration file. (.sf file)

You can put autocopy on the command line to tell search for to automatically save web pages and text files for pages that have an exact match to the text you are searching for.
